Many people came out of 2022 thinking,
quite reasonably, “how much worse
could things possibly get?” The answer
was unequivocal: worse. Alongside the
implosions of Credit Suisse and SVB’s and
the estimated 60,000 jobs that were cut
across the banking sector in 2023, profits
were squeezed by weak revenues in both
investment banking and markets.
